As I gear up for the next little adventure, it occurred to me that a glimpse into the waiting room might provide some minor diversion on this bright Sunday morning. To an extent, this may be taken as some sort of preview of what might be to come in the months (and years) to follow but I should add that there is plenty hidden from view in the layer(s) below as well as in various off stage corners of the watchmakers desk that acts as the centre of gravity of my extracurricular activities. I am sure that the eagle-eyed among you may be able to identify much of what is on display, as well as one or two whose identity may be a little more tricky to deduce. Let’s see how you get on.
I can just make a familiar old Omega in the top right corner 🙂
I’ve been holding out to see if I can find a replacement dial but sooner or later I’ll crack and go with what I’ve got 🙂
A veritable feast Martin! Looking forward to the next installment. Couldn’t see a 62MAS lurking anywhere thought there must-have been.. incidentally wondered about your thoughts on the GS Chronometer 43999 – been hunting for one but was told recently that the balance springs can be hard to find..
*if you need a replacement…
If you look carefully, you may see a 43999 lurking in the box. An absolute classic but as yet I can’t offer much on the ease or difficulty of finding specific parts because I’ve not yet dived in. I’ll be getting to that one sooner than later though.
Hmm, a few high beats, king Seiko, Lordmatic, bellmatic, seikosha, tuna can. Nice stuff.
My waiting room has two quartz divers which remain a mystery: I cannot find then in the Technical /Repair manuals listed on the watch site SCWF(Seiko and Citizen, Watch Forum), which is my primary source. Model numbers: 7N36-7A09 and 5H26-7A19. Both keep excellent time, but both need chapter rings and crystals and the 5H26 needs the dial reborn, or replaced. Might you help? Thank you and regards, Chris Taylor
Hi Chris,
I have no experience or knowledge of either of the models you mention but according to the Jules Borel database, the 7N36-7A09 takes a 310W76HN01 crystal and a 84321104 dial ring. The 5H26 takes the same crystal and dial ring or the 84321129, depending on the dial colour. The 5H26 dial part numbers depend on the colour but, for example, the black dial is 5H267A1LXB19. Cousins in the UK show stock of the crystal at £13.15 plus VAT and delivery. Over to you to track down the rest!
Martin, Thank you for steering me toward the Borel Material Utility. I discovered an interesting detail of the 5H26-7A19 case: there is no crystal retaining ring. The crystal must be pressed out from the rear. I look forward to the installation. Cheers, Chris Taylor
I see a lovely Silverwave at the left hand side – middle bin, my most recent object of desire…
…and another at the top right. Ahhh, you’re the guy who snatches them up! LOL. One day, perhaps, and I’ll get lucky.
I’m not an especially prolific hoover-upper of Yahoo treasures – the apparent volume on display here is simply the consequence of slow but steady accumulation over of period of a number of years. Competition is now getting fierce on Yahoo and there are plenty of buyers with very deep pockets. The trick is to sniff out the auctions where the description contains as little information as possible!
The 30m Silverwave in the centre of the box is a bit scruffy to be honest, with a heavily patina’d dial but the 50m watch on the left is a bit of a peach 🙂
